Chung Tai International Retreat Center
『Buddhist New Year Retreat 』
On February 12th Chung Tai International Retreat Center, located at 425 Blackberry Lane, Shepherd, Texas 77371, held a special one-day retreat to embrace the spring. The day started with a Tai Chi practice which was guided by Ven. Master Jian Xin, a Wu Su master from Chung Tai Chan Monastery, Taiwan. A session of sitting meditation followed that was guided by Ven. Master Jian Zong, the Abbot of the Retreat Center.
At noon a veggie BBQ lunch started the afternoon open house program. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect with its warm, glorious sunshine. Sitting around picnic tables under tall pine trees made everyone feel that spring had already arrived. Among the participants there were many friends and neighbors from Shepherd, Goodrich and Livingston. Thanks to them all for their support!
The Chung Tai Choir performed a couple of songs that they sang at the Chinese New Year Eve’s celebration at the Chung Tai Zen Center of Houston last February 2nd. A tour of the Retreat Center was given after lunch. Participants were divided into two groups – one group explored the “Jungle” trail that wandered through the 300-acre woods; the other group trekked down the “Lake” trail which took them to the house on our 30-acre lake.
The Center was dedicated last October by Grand Master Ven. Wei Chueh from Taiwan. At that time government representatives, local officials and celebrities from around the country came to witness the inauguration of the Center.
The one-day retreat event is only the first of a busy year-long schedule to be hosted by the Retreat Center and its sister organization, Chung Tai Zen Center of Houston. All people, especially our friends in the neighborhood, are invited to join each and every program the Center offers. While all programs are free of charge, donations are welcome and put to good use. Generous donations allow us to provide and continuously improve quality programs that benefit everyone who takes part.
Chung Tai International Retreat Center and Chung Tai Zen Center of Houston are both 501(c)(3) non-profit religion organizations.
